Upon finishing high school, Dario attended Sacred Heart University where he graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Media Studies. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Football team and President of the SPJ chapter.

Melendez serves as a sports director at WISN-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He returned to the station in April 2022, after working at Bally Sports North in Milwaukee as a Brewers & bucks host and reporter. Dario served the station for four years from March 2018 to March 2022. Earlier, Dario spent nearly three years working at New York 1 News as a sports reporter and anchor from June 2015 to December 2017. In addition to this, he also appeared in Bristol, Connecticut where he served as a SportsCenter anchor at ESPN.

Before joining ESPN, Dario served as a sports anchor and reporter at WISN-TV from November 2010 to February 2013. While there, he covered historical sports games including the 2012 Big Ten Championships, the 2011 NLDS, and Super Bowl XLV. On top of this, Melendez also won the Associated Press Regional Award and was nominated by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association as the best Sportscast for Larger Market. Previously, he was a radio personality at Fox Sports Radio 1200/1460 from March 2009 to October 2010.

Dario began his career in October 2008 working in Fort Myers, Florida as a sports anchor and reporter at WINK News. He also reported major sports events including the 2009 BCS Orange Bowl, Super Bowls XLIII and XLIV, the 2009 NBA Finals, the 2010 Pro Bowl, and the 2009 BCS National Championship. Prior to working at WINK News, he was an intern at NBC Sports for five months.

Before that, Melendez worked at the Spectrum as a newspaper writer and co-editor-in-chief for nine months. In addition to this, he also served as a sports intern at WPLG News. During his time there, he covered numerous sports events including the 2007 NBA Draft Party, the 2007 Alonzo Mourning Summer Groove All-Star Basketball Game, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays games.
