Dave Baker is an American journalist working for WKYT as a sports anchor, reporter, and account executive. He joined the station in 1982 and has served the station for over 4 decades.

Baker joined Georgetown College in 1978 when he finished his studies at Franklin Senior High School. In 1982, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Political Science.

Baker works for WKYT as a sports anchor, reporter, and account executive. In this role, he appears on air during WKYT’s line-up of news, sports, and special events programming. Additionally, he hosts various University of Kentucky and SEC televised events like UK/JMI telecasts and broadcasts of University of Kentucky sports. Further, he’s the veteran host of the UK Sports Network’s “Countdown to Tip-Off Show” on the school’s statewide radio network.
At WKYT, Baker delivers sports at noon, 6:30 p.m., and whenever there’s news involving the Cats. Moreover, he hosts the Sports Buzz podcast and “The Sports Buzz Podcast” on the WKYT Facebook page. He has also broadcasted the Cats in 5 Final Fours and 3 National Championships in 1996, 1998, and 2012.
Work outside WKYT;
Besides his work at WKYT, Baker has been involved with broadcasting events for the Southeastern Conference for over 20 years doing men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball. He also calls for UK men’s and women’s soccer and women’s softball on the SEC Network Plus. Twice, he has been a part of Turner Sports “Team Casts” for The Final Four.
In 1993, Baker started doing events for the SEC’s syndicated broadcast package(Jefferson-Pilot, Lincoln Financial, and Raycom Sports). In this role, he hosted the “SEC Football Today” pre-game show and sideline reported as part of the game broadcast.
In the winter, Baker was a play-by-play announcer on Raycom Sports broadcast of SEC Basketball and the sideline reporter for the SEC Tournament such as the March 2008 Friday night when a tornado hit The Georgia Dome. He and his broadcast team members informed and reassured those at home and watching during that event as the championship progressed.
Baker hosted “SEC Tailgate” on the CBS College Sports Network for 2 seasons. In the summers, he was a contributor to Raycom’s “Football Saturdays” show. In 2005, he was inducted into the Franklin High School Hall of Fame.
Community Work
Baker has been involved and devoted to the community. The Kentucky State House and Senate awarded home for his work with the Malt Beverage Education Corporation. He was on Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence’s task force that tackled the problem of fortifying laws and enforcement associated with sex offenders. This work led to the passage of Kentucky House Bill 3.
Baker works as a Foundation Board member for Baptist Health Lexington. He also loves the Children’s Charity Golf Classic, which raises money for 30 different children’s firms in central Kentucky. Since its launch, the organization has raised over 15 million dollars. In 2004, he won the Jose Ferrer Award from the Children’s Charity Golf Classic.
