Dee Dee Myers Biography

Dee Dee Myers is an American political analyst who worked as the 19th White House Press Secretary during the first two years of the Clinton administration. She was the first woman and the second youngest person to hold that position. Myers later co-hosted the Fair Time news show at CNBC and was a West Wing analyst.

Dee Dee Myers Politics

Myers’ interest in political relations started shortly after graduation from college, playing a full-time role in Walter Mondale’s 1984 presidential campaign. Later, she served as a field delegate for California State Senator Art Torres and as Assistant Press Secretary for Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and his 1986 California Governor Bid. She was also a spokeswoman for Michael Dukakis’s 1988 presidential bid and Dianne Feinstein’s 1990 California governor campaign, acting as campaign manager for Frank Jordan’s 1991 run for San Francisco Mayor.

Dee Dee Myers and Clinton

Myers joined the Presidential Campaign Staff of Bill Clinton in 1991 and was elected Clinton’s first White House Press Secretary after the 1992 presidential election, a position she held from January 20, 1993, to December 22, 1994. She was the first woman to serve in that role, as well as becoming the second-youngest ever, to have taken up her job at the age of 31. Myers is often referred to as the youngest-ever White House Press Secretary, but Ron Ziegler, Richard Nixon’s press secretary, was 29 when he took office in January 1969.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Myers has gained a reputation for “humor and patience” in managing the White House press corps, frequently providing “quick one-liners” when issuing regular press briefings. Until September 1994, when she was appointed Assistant to the President, she kept the lesser role of “deputy assistant” and had a smaller salary than the former White House Press Secretaries. She also lacked clear links to the inner circle of Clinton. This has also been noticed in press reports of Myers during her tenure and is discussed in her 2008 book Why Women Should Rule The World.

Dee Dee Myers as a Commentator

Myers has contributed to Vanity Fair since July 1995, initially as editor of Washington, then since 1997 as editor-in-chief. She is the author of the 2008 New York Times best-selling book Why Women Should Rule The World, about women taking positions in power and her own experience in the White House. His works have also appeared in a variety of other magazines, including the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Time, The Washington Post, O: Oprah Magazine, Politico, and The Huffington Post.

Since leaving the White House, Myers has also been asked to lecture at various forums, usually on women’s rights, the media, and politics. In 2011, she became a brand spokeswoman for Jones New York’s Inspire Your Faith campaign and featured as a model in the brand’s advertising.
