Dom Tiberi Career
Tiberi isn’t your typical sports reporter. Certainly not by a long shot. While other sportscasters may be content to cover the fundamentals, Tiberi takes the phrase “world of sports” to a whole new level. On any given day, Dom could be reporting on anything from the latest Buckeyes news to more unusual stories about local athletes. From water skis to racing sulkies, he’s been seen on them all. Tiberi has a strong commitment to high school athletics, as evidenced by his duties with First and 10, as well as his coverage of the local high school beat, with a focus on local athletes.
Tiberi is best known for his reporting on The Ohio State University. He has a track record of breaking stories about the Buckeyes before the competition is even aware of their existence. Through his daily work on that important sports beat, he has a proven track record of obtaining timely interviews from coaching staff and players. Tiberi began working for WBNS-10TV in 1981.
Dom was an active member of his college radio and TV station, as well as a member of the football team, while at Otterbein. Dom’s work at 10TV has earned him four Ohio Valley Emmys.
Tiberi and WBNS-10TV launched “Maria’s Message,” a public service campaign to educate teens about distracted driving, in February 2014. Tiberi takes the campaign and his message to local high schools, telling students what happened the night of the tragic crash and encouraging them to drive defensively. The moving presentation concludes with students reciting “Maria’s Pledge” and signing pledge cards for Maria’s Message. Tiberi’s efforts, along with the support of Ohio Senator Jim Hughes, have resulted in legislation designating September as “Safe Driving Month” in Ohio, in honor of Maria Tiberi and all those who have died as a result of distracted driving accidents. In June of 2014, Governor Kasich signed the legislation into law.
