Efren Afante Biography
Efren Afante is an American meteorologist working for WLTX as the chief meteorologist since 2019. In this role, he focuses on dynamic weather including floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and harsh thunderstorms. He joined the station in May 2015 as a weekday morning and noon meteorologist.

Afante joined the Oklahoma City Community College in 2008 when he finished his high school education. In 2010, he graduated with an Associate Of Science degree in Engineering Physics. While there, he worked as a mathematics supplemental instructor and a chemistry & physics lab assistant, and instructional tutor
Afante then joined the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Geography and a Meteorology minor. During his time there, he worked as an undergraduate research assistant with the Shared Mobile Atmospheric Research and Teaching Radar (SMART-R) Program.
As an undergraduate research assistant, he researched The Verification Of Rotation of Tornadoes Experiment 2 (VORTEX2) Project in 2010 and The Deep Convective Clouds and Chemistry (DC3) Project in 2012. Moreover, he did extensive research surveying tornadoes, hurricanes, serious storms, and lightning detection.
Afante interned at KOCO News 5 where he worked directly in serious weather forecasting and storm tracking. He also anchored the weather for The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) awarded weekday daily student-run newscasts.
