Eileen Whelan Biography
Eileen Whelan is an American meteorologist working for WJLA as a meteorologist as well as a weather producer. She joined the station weather team back in December 2011.

Whelan attended Salisbury University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Earth & Atmospheric Science and Mass Media. She was also very much involved with the National Broadcasting Society, The Geographic Society, and various other organizations across campus.

Whelan is a meteorologist whose love for the weather began when she was still young at the age of 6 mainly because of her father’s business. Her dad’s business heavily relies on weather forecasts for he is a commercial roofing contractor. She says that she has some memories of her father and her watching the weather forecast reports before leaving for school every morning.
Her passion was fueled every day as she grew up and knew for sure that she would really want to be a meteorologist someday. She would also pin paper maps on her walls and pretend she was giving a live weather forecast on-air and compared her own forecasts to other local meteorologists. Additionally, she watched Bob Ryan as well as Doug Hill. Whelan interned with Sue Palka at FOX 5 in DC and at WMDT in Salisbury, MD. Immediately after she graduated, she was hired for the first time by WBOC in Salisbury, MD.
While there, she started off serving the weekend morning show and then went on to anchor the weekday morning and noon shows. She toured all across the ABC7 viewing area in the Storm Chaser Hummer delivering live weather conditions, in the early mornings, for Good Morning Washington. Whelan finds pleasure in reading a good book on the beach, spending some time with her family and friends, and meeting new people. She also enjoys learning new things about the weather, trying new craft beers, and exercising.
