Eric Brill Biography

Eric Brill is an American journalist who serves as the chief meteorologist at KMVT/KSVT in Twin Falls, Idaho. Eric’s travel from Northern California to Southern Idaho has been quite an adventure! He grew up on Long Island, New York, and went to Plymouth State University in New Hampshire for college.

Eric Brill Career

Eric did some freelancing work on Long Island after graduating in 2015 before being given a full-time job in Bismarck, North Dakota. From September 2015 through June 2016, Eric worked at KXMB in Bismarck. He was able to endure wind chills below -50° during that time, as well as call tornado warnings before the National Weather Service did. During his stay in the Dakotas, he also performed some reporting, but he preferred to concentrate on the weather.

Eric relocated to Beaumont, Texas, in June 2016 to work at KJAC/KBMT because he wanted to cover mostly the weather. The opportunity to cover tropical weather piqued his interest, and in August 2017, he was able to do just that. Hurricane Harvey made landfall approximately 200 miles south of Beaumont, but the storm that wouldn’t go away continued to saturate Southeast Texas with rain.

When it was all said and done, a new record rainfall for a tropical cyclone in the United States was set approximately a mile and a half from his residence; 60.58 inches of rain poured in a week! To put that in context, Twin Falls would need more than six years on average to receive that much rain.

During Harvey’s aftermath, Eric had several sleepless nights of nonstop coverage, including two shifts of 18 hours on the air. Eric reviewed many severe weather/tornado outbreaks, and historical snow events (for Southeast Texas standards), and learned about the limitations of forecasting near the Gulf of Mexico in addition to Harvey. Eric enjoys going traveling in his spare time and seeing what the area where he lives has to offer. He’s excited to see all of the parks and waterfalls that the region has to offer. You might even see him trying to ski on the slopes.
