Evan Donovan Biography

Evan Donovan is an American Political anchor/reporter working at WFLA since joining the station in 2017. Donovan anchors News Channel 8 Today on weekend mornings, reports on political issues during the week, and hosts the Sunday morning political show Battleground Florida.

Since arriving in October 2017, Donovan has covered many high-profile stories including President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign launch and 2018 Tampa rally, the execution of infamous Tampa Bay serial killer and rapist Bobby Joe Long, the Parkland school shooting and subsequent commission hearings, and the historic Tampa mayoral race in 2019.

Before coming to Tampa, Donovan worked at WLOS in Asheville, NC, where he extensively covered the disputed 2016 NC gubernatorial election and the HB2 transgender bathroom bill controversy. In 2016, he reported from inside the deadly Blue Ridge Mountain and on the Outer Banks during Hurricane Arthur.

In his news career, Donovan has won several awards. He was part of the News Channel 8 team that won a regional Murrow award for providing 24/7 coverage on social media to victims of Hurricane Michael. Previously, he won two RTDNA awards for Anchor of the Year and a regional Emmy award for live reporting and Anchor Team of the Year in the Carolinas.

He attended the University of Virginia where he graduated with a commerce degree concentrating in finance and international business, starting his career as a trader at a prestigious hedge fund. Donovan then left the world of Wall Street for the high streets of London to manage an ATM installation business across parts of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. in 2009, he started his career in broadcasting.
