Frank Carpano is an American journalist working for WJAR NBC 10 in Providence, Rhode Island, as the sports director and primary sports anchor since he was promoted in 1984. He joined the station in 1980 as a sports anchor and reporter.

Carpano joined Ithaca College after finishing his education at Lincoln-Sudbury High School. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.

Carpano has worked for WJAR NBC 10 as the sports director and primary sports anchor since he was promoted in 1984. Upon joining the station, he initially worked as a sports anchor and reporter. His first big assignment was broadcasting the 1983 America’s Cup in Newport. In this capacity, he was deployed in Newport for 3-and-a-half months. Moreover, he was a part of the first internationally televised America’s Cup race.

During his career at NBC10 that spans over 4 decades, Carpano has covered numerous World Series, Olympics, NBA Finals, NCAA tournament games, Stanley Cup Playoff games, Olympics, and Super Bowls. He is a two-time Olympic torchbearer who received a New England Emmy award for his series “Getting Frank in Shape.” That series followed him as he prepared for the Olympic torch run.

Carpano also worked for NBC during the 2006 Olympic Games, reporting on the games for the network’s owned-and-operated stations nationwide. He was also a fill-in sports anchor at WNBC-TV in New York City for several years. Moreover, he delivered play-by-play announcements for Providence College hockey, Brown University football, and many televised high school basketball and football games. He has also worked as a Championship Boxing ring announcer.

Carpano has spent over 2 decades as the public address announcer at Providence’s Dunkin’ Donuts Center for Providence College basketball games. The National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters has awarded him 12 “Sportscaster of the Year” Awards. He serves as an inducted member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – Boston/New England Chapter Silver Circle.
