Fred Childers Biography

Fred Childers is an American director/reporter/anchor working for Fox 44 as the anchor and managing editor for Fox 44 News at 9 pm, and the political reporter for WVLA Local 33 News. He joined Fox 44 in August 2015.  

He joined Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Texas in the ’90s where he studied broadcast journalism, while he was there, he discovered his love for television news after he got experience in reporting for the school’s news show on Cable Channel 7. Childers has served as a broadcast journalist for over 18 years and while serving as a political reporter, he moved to the Capital City where all the political action happens.

Prior to moving to WGMB and WVLA, he worked in Shreveport Louisiana as a reporter for 11 years. He also served as a fill-in anchor covering breaking news, politics, and criminal courts. The Louisiana Broadcaster Association awarded him, the Reporter of the Year award in 2009.

In addition, his most memorable coverage was of Hurricane Katrina as he spent 13 days in and around New Orleans as he covered the hurricane’s arrival and the devastating floods that followed. Childers provided live reports to Louisiana and for stations all across the country. He began his journalism career in 1998, at the CBS affiliate, KAUZ TV in Wichita Falls, Texas where he served as a reporter and weekend anchor.

Fred, later on, became Cable Channel 7’s manager. He has served as a broadcast journalist for 18 years and during that time, he has described his experience as very exciting, rewarding, and fulfilling. During his downtime, he enjoys running as he has discovered the beautiful jogging path at LSU Lake, visiting new restaurants together with his wife, and playing with his three dogs; Cocoa, De Oro, and Maggie Mae.
