Gene Birk Biography

Gene Birk is an American Anchor working with WKBO-TV where he serves the station as an Evening Anchor for the 5, 6, and 10 PM News. He began his career at the station working as a Sports Director in the year 1986. He left the station in 1993 and returned later on working as a primary news anchor in 1994.

Birk works with WKBO-TV where he serves the station as an Evening Anchor since rejoining the station in 1994. He is a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Radio-TV in the year 1972. Asides from this, he also worked in radio in Beloit, Wisconsin, and Crystal Lake, Illinois. Asides from this, he has also worked in television stations located in Mobile, Alabama, Amarillo, Texas, and Dubuque, Iowa.

While in College, he also studied a Minor in theater and appeared in Close Encounters of the Third King which was filmed in Mobile when he was working there. Asides from this, he has also appeared in several amateur theater productions which include The Lion in Winter, Annie Get Your Gun, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Rainmaker, 1776.

He has also served on and been past chairman of the Advisory Council of the Foster Grandparent Program. Asides from this, he has also volunteered, served, and supported numerous other boards in the community. These include the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Court Appointed Special Advocate, the Capitol Arts Alliance, and Special Olympics. Birk has, additionally, served on and been past president of the board of the Kentucky Associated Press.
