He was young and had a deep interest in sports and sports broadcasting. While in high school, he helped film basketball and participate in student-produced newscasts.
In his time in college, he was greatly involved in UK’s student news, covering Kentucky’s sporting events. He was interned at WBKO’s sister station WKYT in their sports department and at a station in Salisbury, Maryland. Upon his graduation, he was able to land a job with 13 News as a producer of the 6/10 pm news.
