Grace Thornton Biography

Grace Thornton is an American meteorologist and multimedia journalist working for KVUE in Austin, Texas as a weekend morning and mid-day meteorologist. She joined KVUE in January 2023. Before joining KVUE, she worked for WMBB as a weekend meteorologist and multimedia journalist. Prior to joining WMBB, she worked in Baltimore. 

Thornton spend the better part of her life in Maryland before relocating to Panama City Beach in February 2021. She was brought up in the Mid-Atlantic, and she has always been subject to a plethora of weather. Her interest in weather was sparked by the chilly and snowy winters, hot and humid summers, and a few hurricanes in the fall. Grace attended Salisbury University where she earned a degree in Geography and tracks in both Atmospheric Science and Geographic Information Systems.

In addition, a number of highlights of her college career include a 10-day storm-chasing trip after graduation and her field studies courses researching the desert Southwest. For the last 2 and a half years, she worked as a geospatial analyst for Maxar Technologies, however, within a short while, she got promoted to serving as an Operational Meteorologist as a result of her more extensive weather background. Furthermore, she was part of Maxar Technologies’ agricultural weather team that forecasted commodity crops in the US and internationally. During her free time, she loves painting, hiking, hanging out in the sunshine, rollerblading, and traveling.
