Previously, she worked as a reporter and multimedia journalist at WGAL in Central Pennsylvania for 4 years.

McDonald finished her studies at LaSalle Academy where she was the student council vice president and in the National Honor Society. She then joined the S.I. She also received recognition from the community for her commitment to covering the aftermath of the Covenant School mass shooting. In 2023, she won two Emmy nominations for her broadcasts. In 2020, McDonald was second in the Associated Press competition for Best TV Reporter in Tennessee.
Previously, she worked as a reporter and multimedia journalist at WGAL in Central Pennsylvania for 4 years. In Pennsylvania, she produced the station’s inaugural mini-series that spotlighted student life at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey. The series won her the Pennsylvania Associated Press Best Education Series Award as well as an Emmy nomination. In 2018, she received an Associated Award for her feature reporting.

Following her graduation from college, she secured an anchoring and reporting role at WPTZ in Burlington, Vermont. In Burlington, she covered the Shawshank Redemption-style prison escape in Dannemora, New York that prompted a three-week pursuit and made national headlines. She sees going to London during the 2012 Summer Olympics and working for NBC as a career-high.
