Heather Ly is an American award-winning journalist working for WGRZ in Buffalo, N.Y. She has been working for the station since joining on 12 October 2006.

Ly serves as an anchor and reporter at WGRZ in Buffalo, N.Y. In this role, she anchors Daybreak Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Daybreak Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and as a general assignment reporter during the week. She is a Chicago native who prior to coming to WGRZ, worked in Syracuse and Northern New York for about two years. She went to Columbia College Chicago where she attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Ly began her journalism career in Chicago at CBS 2 when a college internship turned into a job as a production assistant and assignment editor. She also publicized that the best part of her job is being able to meet new people and the fact that every day is different. Ly has also managed to win quite a number of awards ever since she started her journalism career.
For instance, she was first placed in the Associated Press award for Best Sports Coverage for her story about 3-year-old Ryder. Ryder was an enthusiastic Buffalo Sabres fan who was in need of a prosthetic leg. She was also awarded an AP award for her story regarding a Western New York woman who turns old wedding dresses into burial “angel gowns” for babies. Furthermore, she was nominated twice for a New York Regional Emmy award.
Whenever she is not working, she enjoys going to the beach, swimming, and a ton of other water-related activities. Ly also spends most of her summer holidays in the Finger Lakes and enjoys cooking as well as traveling. She is also quite enthusiastic about rooting for the Bills, and White Sox, checking out new fitness classes, and Chicago Bears. She is also a volunteer in Western New York, including Roswell Park, Women and Children’s Hospital, and the Boys and Girls Club.
