Ian Oliver Biography
Ian Oliver is an American Meteorologist, he was recently working at WFLA since joining Storm Team 8 in May 2016. You could catch him on News Channel 8 during the weekends at 6 PM, 8 PM, and 11 PM and during the week on News Channel 8 at 11 AM. Oliver grew up near the beach in Westport, MA, and loves living there on the coast.
Ian Oliver Early Life
Growing up, Oliver played sports, fishing, and skiing with my family in New England. He worked at a bait and tackle shop through high school and college and on a salmon boat for a summer up in Kodiak, Alaska. He loved watching the local TV meteorologists in Boston and Providence track Nor’easters and he always wanted to be one! His passion for weather sent him even farther north a pitching wedge from the Canadian border to the beautiful Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.
He attended Lyndon State College where he studied Broadcast Meteorology and Physics. he played soccer (goalkeeper) there for four years and graduated with academic honors. In 2014, he earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) distinction from the American Meteorological Society.

He had the opportunity to track and forecast all kinds of weather, from blizzards to tornadoes from winter and severe working in Burlington, VT, and Lexington, KY, and now tropical weather of course here in Tampa. He has been really lucky to have some great assignments in his career his personal top 3 are having a weekly ski segment in Vermont called “Skiin’ With Ian”, visiting the GOES-R satellite in a NASA clean room, and then seeing it launch to space, and delivering a weathercast live at Churchill Downs from the Kentucky Derby.
Growing up in southern New England, he is a huge Boston sports fan – Pats, Celtics, Sox, and Bruins. The Bucs have grown on his big-time in the NFC corner of his heart and he loves watching the Lightning play at Amalie. He knows it doesn’t get him a whole lot of love in Florida but Cassidy is a Kentucky Wildcat and a little bit of that Blue rubbed off on him too during his 4 years in Lexington.

Oliver left the WFLA station in September 2021. He said in goodbye to viewers that he moved to Tampa with his wife 5 years ago and hopes to return someday.
