Fielder attended Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communication. He then joined the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse, New York, graduating with a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism.

Fielder started off by interning in various stations such as WEYI-TV 25, in Clio, spending most of his time in the newsroom. He then interned at WTOP Radio in Washington, where he took coverage on major league baseball, and later at WKTV 2 in Uatacia. Fielder began his career working for WBKB-TV in Alpena, Michigan as the morning weekday sports reporter and the morning weekend sports anchor. He was then elevated to Sports Director at the station.

Fielder is also a volunteer for the MDA, co-hosting the Jerry Lewis Telethon at WBKB-TV for the whole local segment. He has served as the celebrity auctioneer at the Carabial Cabaret, a spring fundraiser for the SVSU Athletic Department, and as the keynote speaker at a variety of SVSU Scholarship Recognition Programs. He is also a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and a founding member of the Upsilon Delta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). While at TV5, he created the ”Fielder’s Choice” sports story series. Fielder accepts sporting challenges from the audience in them. For his ”Fielder’s Choice” story in which he was challenged by a young female archer, he received a 2008 Michigan Associated Press Award for the best feature story.
