He also spent several years working for WBOC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Salisbury where he also served as a reporter and anchor.
Newton has also managed to win several awards ever since he started his journalism career. For instance, he received an Emmy Award for his exclusive report on Maryland’s opioid crisis as part of WBAL’s “State of Addiction” coverage. He was also awarded an Associated Press award for “Outstanding In-Depth Reporting” after enclosing the efforts of Maryland firefighters to help clean up.
Newton also spent some time working for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on the teaching staff in the broadcast department. During his time here, he was also active and played an important role in launching a university webcast highlighting achievements on campus by the name of UMES.
