Jason Sydejko Biography

Jason Sydejko is an American meteorologist working for KCCI 8 News as the chief meteorologist since he was promoted in August 2023. Before that promotion, he served the station as a morning meteorologist for 2 years. He joined the station in January 2015 as a weekend evening and noon meteorologist. Previously, he spent almost 4 years at FOX 21 KQDS-DT Channel 21 in Duluth, Minnesota.

Sydejko joined the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2002 after finishing high school. In 2006, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and Geography with a minor in Applied Mathematics. While in college, he was involved with Varsity Track and Field, the College of Liberal Arts, and was a 3x National Provisional Qualifier for the high jump.

Sydejko furthered his studies at Mississippi State University in 2009, where he graduated with a Master of Science degree in Geosciences an emphasis on Broadcast Meteorology in 2011.

Sydejko previously almost 4 years at FOX 21 KQDS-DT Channel 21 in Duluth, Minnesota. He started his stint as a weekend meteorologist and was later promoted to the chief meteorologist. He also worked as a weekend meteorologist at WeatherVision based out of Jackson, Mississippi.

Sydejko is very passionate about for forecasting and broadcasting. He enjoys teaching the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ rather than just todeliver a forecast. He experienced numerous weather extremes while in Duluth, from waterspouts, almost 3 feet of snow from one storm, and tornadoes to massive floods, extreme heat, and temperatures of -50ºF and colder.

Sydejko holds the National Weather Association Seal of Approval. In 2014, he won the Eric Sevareid Award of Merit for Lifestyles Series and Weathercast.
