Jay Hardy is an American journalist working for WNCT as a weekend news anchor of the 6 pm and 11 p.m. newscasts since joining the station in March 2026. In addition to that role, he reports news stories during the week.

Hardy joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994 after finishing his education at North Lenoir High School. In 1998, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Hardy kick-started his career at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, where he was a part-time news assistant. In 2000, he landed his first full-time reporting role at WHAG-TV (NBC 25) in Hagerstown, Maryland. There, he broadcast high school sports across four states and the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl XXXV championship season.

Hardy returned to Raleigh in 2001, rejoining WRAL-TV as a sports photographer and reporter. He spent 4 years there, covering UNC, NC State, and Duke Athletics, as well as the Carolina Panthers, Durham Bulls, Carolina Hurricanes, high school football, and NASCAR.

Hardy provided coverage for UNC Basketball’s 2005 National Championship in St. Louis while still at WRAL-TV. He also covered the Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston, Texas. He took a 10-year hiatus from TV to work in corporate communications and marketing, returning to local TV in 2015 as a news reporter with Spectrum News in Raleigh.
