Rob Martin Biography

Rob Martin is an American meteorologist working for WNCT as a weekday morning meteorologist since joining the station in March 2018. Previously, he worked as the chief meteorologist for WICZ FOX 40 in Binghamton, New York.

Rob Martin Education

Martin joined San José State University in 1988 after finishing his high school education. In 1994, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, emphasizing Mid-latitude Severe Storms and Tropical Weather. During his time in college, he was a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). As a senior, he did a thesis titled “Wind Patterns During Increasing Ozone in the Sacramento Valley.”

In 2010, Martin furthered his studies at Palomar College, where he obtained his Certification in Television and Radio, Television/Radio Broadcasting in 2012. While there, he worked as the chief meteorologist and weather producer at NCN News in San Marcos, California.

Martin works for WNCT as a weekday morning meteorologist. The Maryland native has also spent many years on the West Coast, where he graduated. He can vividly recall Hurricane David bordering his hometown back in 1979, an event that cemented his decision to pursue meteorology in college.

Martin previously worked as the chief meteorologist for WICZ FOX 40 in Binghamton, New York. He obtained the Television Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society while he was still working in Binghamton. He moved to Greenville to be closer to home and family.

Before working in Binghamton, he worked as a weekend meteorologist and weekday multimedia journalist at WVVA in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was a broadcast meteorologist for The Herald-Mail in Hagerstown, Maryland, before moving to West Virginia.

Martin anchored the weather for WDHN in Dothan, Alabama. He has also workeds at WXXV in Deep South, Gulfport, Mississippi. Before launching his weather career, he was an avid sous chef in California and is also a motorcycle enthusiast.
