Jay Scott Smith is an American Anchor/Reporter working with KYW News radio where he serves the station as a Sports Anchor/Reporter since February 2019. Prior to KYW News radio, he spent about three years working with WHYY.

Smith works with KYW Newsradio where he serves the station as a sports anchor/reporter. Previously, he was working with WHYY where he won two Best Sports Feature Awards and Best Newscast from the PA Associated Press.
The Detroit native is a proud graduate of Michigan State University where he graduated in the year 2003. Later on, he went on to join Wayne State University where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Journalism in the year 2011.
Smith kick-started his radio career in the year 2005 on WQHH-FM located in Lansing, Michigan. His career includes stops in Detroit News, MLive.com, and the Asbury Park Press. He joined TheGrio, which was previously a division of NBC News in the year 2011. While he was there, he covered major stories in the Midwest which include issues of housing discrimination and gun violence as well as Detroit’s historic 2012 bankruptcy.
The experienced sports journalist has covered major events such as the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the NFL Draft, the World Series, and the Daytona 500. Asides from that, he teaches journalism and broadcast editing at Lincoln University. Smith is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
He is also a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists and a past Vice President of Broadcast for the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. Away from work, he enjoys listening to podcasts, classic hip-hop, watching movies and pro wrestling, basketball, and going to the beach.
