Jim Donovan is an American three-time Emmy award-winning radio and TV personality, working for WKYC in Cleveland, Ohio serving as a sports director and News anchor. He has been working with the station since March 1985.
Jim Donovan Career
Donovan serves as a news anchor and sports director for WKYC in Cleveland, Ohio. Where he was named the voice of the Cleveland Browns in 1999. Furthermore, since the year 1999, Jim has been the radio voice of the Cleveland Browns Radio Network. While at the station he covered national and International events such as a cup soccer in 1992. He also anchored the ’96 Summer Olympics for NBC/3News in 1994 and swimming and soccer competitions at the Olympics for NBC.
Moreover, Jim has been hosting the soap Box Derby PBS live national coverage since 1991. Additionally, he has provided coverage of the CVS Cleveland Marathon for thirteen years. In addition to that, he was the play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports’ NFL games from 1987 to 1997. In 1992, he has received an Emmy for “Browns ’92 The Next Step”. Donovan was named the all-Ohio Best Sportscaster in 1988 by The Cleveland Press Club for his report on Bob Golic’s farewell to the Cleveland Browns in 1990.
Previously he had provided play-by-play basketball and hockey coverage for the satellite News Channel in Burlington, Vermont. Moreover, Jim served as a play-by-play announcer for one season in the Vermont Reds, a Cincinnati Reds minor league baseball team. Prior to that, Jim participated in events benefiting the American Lung Association, Arthritis Foundation, and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundations.
Before that, he served as a spokesperson for the Kidney Foundation of Ohio. Donovan spent some years working at WEZF-TV and WVMT Radio where he served as a sports anchor. Additionally, he began his career in journalism at WJON Radio where he served as a sports director. Furthermore, graduated from Boston University.
