Jim Teske Biography
Jim Teske is an American meteorologist working for WSYR as the chief meteorologist since January 2017. Before that, he held many different roles on the Storm Team. He joined the station in January 1995 and has served the station for more than three and a half decades.
Jim Teske Education
Teske joined the State University of New York at Oswego when he finished his education at Syracuse Minoa High School. He studied meteorology at SUNY for 2 years before he transferred to Penn State University. He graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Meteorology.

During his time at NewsChannel, Teske has visited numerous classrooms to teach about the various weather that central New York is known for. Previously, he worked as an on-air meteorologist in Burlington, Vermont, and Portland, Maine. He holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal Of Approval.
While he was growing up in the 1970s, Teske and his family ate dinner with the evening news on in the background. He also gravitated toward the weather to the point of writing down information from the forecasts on pieces of paper and saving them in a little metal box at the age of 7.
The Christmas 1978 snowstorm fueled his fascination with the weather. While in Middle School, he used to compile National Weather Service information that he copied from the newspaper into a brief weather report to read on the morning announcements at Pine Grove Middle School.
Away from the weather, Teske is active in the community. For instance, he has worked as an Honorary Chair of the local Walk to End Alzheimer’s. He has also worked on the board of the Central New York Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Further, he participated in various Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethons.
