Joe Chiodo Biography

Joe Chiodo is an American anchor who is best known for his time at KCTV5 where he served as a morning co-anchor from 4:30 am to 8:00 am and from 9 am to 10 am. He joined the KCTV5 team in March 2016 as a 4 p.m. co-anchor and reporter and left the station in March 2022. He now works at Stowers Institute for Medical Research where he serves as the head of media relations since March 2022.

A number of his most challenging, but memorable, stories include reporting on the duck-boat incident on Table Rock Lake that left 17 people dead, Oak Grove surrounded by the devastation caused by an EF-3 tornado, and anchoring about the tragic death of Yordano Ventura from Kauffman Stadium the morning Kansas City learned. Furthermore, he has covered a number of the most exciting times in Kansas City.

Following the 2015 World Series win, he covered a two-hour Royal’s special and anchored a number of Opening Days as well as Chief’s training camps. His most memorable moment was anchoring live from Arrowhead Stadium for the AFC Championship and the Chief’s 2018 – 2019 run to the Super Bowl. In addition, he featured a number of famous people and organizations in the Kansas City area on the Morning Joe segments. Chiodo assisted the  KCTV5 Surprised Squad.

Prior to working at KCTV, he worked at WOWT, an NBC affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska where he served as an anchor and reporter for almost three years. He also served as the co-anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast and won awards for his; featured reporting, investigations, and breaking news. While he worked in Omaha, he reported on a number of severe weather events and anchored live coverage during President Barack Obama’s visit to the town.
