Joy Purdy is an American journalist working for News4JAX as the 5:30, 6:30, and 11 p.m. anchor. This serves as her second stint with the station. From 1995 to 2000, she served the station as a weekend news anchor and police beat reporter. She rejoined the station at the end of the summer in 2013 after a brief career break and serving WTLV.

While growing up in Trenton, her parents fostered her curious nature by making her watch and relay to them the morning weather report from the Today Show daily while they prepared for work. Her TV career started after she graduated college. At the time, she worked as an intern at Philadelphia’s “Channel 6 Action News.” She then started serving public TV’s New Jersey Network News as a producer and aired news updates on the radio.
While in New Jersey, she swiftly climbed the ladder to serve among NJN’s main TV news reporters. In this role, she assisted in broadcasting big stories such as the inauguration and new administration of New Jersey’s first female governor, Christine Todd Whitman. Also, she had the opportunity to interview important figures like then U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, the late Civil Rights leader Coretta Scott King, and then tennis superstar Pete Sampras.
Purdy relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she joined WJXT News4JAX. After working there for 5 years, she moved to the “Magic City” in 2000 where she exchanged her Jaguars jersey for a Dolphins decal. Then, she accepted an offer to work in Miami at WFOR as a noon and 5 p.m. anchor, a position she held for nearly seven years.
During her time in Miami, she honed her journalistic skills and reported from the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas as Category 4 Hurricane Frances passed directly over her. She covered the Space Shuttle Columbia crisis from the Kennedy Space Center. Also, she broadcasted the notorious 2000 presidential election from downtown Miami.
After she got married, she returned to Jacksonville in September 2007 where she served WTLV. In early 2013, she left the station shortly after giving birth to her child. At the end of the summer, she rejoined TV News and her first family in Jacksonville at WJXT News4JAX.

Purdy then left News4JAX and moved to the “Magic City” in 2000. At the end of the summer of 2013, she rejoined TV News and her first family in Jacksonville at WJXT News4JAX.
