As a reporter, she was in charge of reporting news, gathering data, and writing scripts.
Prior to working at the Columbia Chronicle, Smelser worked for the Echo Magazine as a managing editor. She served the station for five months from January 2022 to May 2022. She began her career at ChicagoTalks in Chicago where she served as a reporter. Kamy also worked with editors on tight deadlines from October 2019 to May 2022. Previously, she served as a staff writer and editor at Frank XI Magazine in Chicago.
Before that, Smelser also spent five months working at Gateway Journalism Review as a correspondent.
