Kevin McCarthy Biography
Kevin McCarthy is an American journalist who serves as a film critic and entertainment reporter on FOX 5 Morning and Fox & Friends (Fox News nationally), The Sports Junkies, and FOX 29 (Philly).
McCarthy’s great fascination with movies began at the age of 8 in 1992 when he watched “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”. Previously, he had made a deal with his parents that they would let him watch the movie if only he got a perfect report card which he delivered. After watching the movie alongside his mom and dad, Kevin fell in love with movies and became a fan of how movies are made. It is from that moment that he realized he wanted to get involved in movies.

Kevin attended George Mason University, where he majored in Communications with a concentration in Media Production and Criticism. He also took film classes. While in college, he did movie reviews on his AOL Instant Messenger away messages. McCarthy interned in the promotions department at 106.7 WJFK-FM. He also interned at CBS RADIO where he jumpstarted his film reviewing career.

On November 18th, 2005 The Sports Junkies, on 106.7 WJFK-FM, allowed him on the air to do movie reviews. While still at WJFK-FM, Tony Perkins from FOX 5 did a live segment on The Sports Junkies in 2007. After the segment, Kevin asked Perkins if FOX 5 needed a movie reviewer and he offered Kevin an opportunity to audition.
McCarthy got the chance to be a film critic for FOX 5 and has done so since 2007. At FOX 5, he was able to interview Arnold Schwarzenegger and share his love for “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” In 2012, he teamed up with two of his college friends to direct a short film for Steven Spielberg! This was after he interviewed Mr. Spielberg for “War Horse” and “The Adventures of Tin Tin” in 2011. After the interview, Spielberg told Kevin that he was going to be a filmmaker. The two ran into each other a month later at the Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles. As McCarthy thanked Steven for the interview, Spielberg told him to make a short film and send it to him.
For his work at FOX 5, he has been nominated for two National Entertainment Journalism Awards.
