Montgomery started his career serving as an anchor and reporter at WLAJ-TV between February 1998 and March 2001. He then worked as an Entertainment Reporter at KUSA-TV based in the Greater Denver Area. Between 2014 and 2019, Montgomery worked at WILX-TV and served as a morning news anchor.
He then worked at 13 ON YOUR SIDE as a full-time anchor. His roles in the station were non-linear editing, breaking news, communication, field production, Microsoft Word, and news writing. He was also a co-host between March 2019 and November 2020. Montgomery then joined NEWSnet in Farmington, Michigan as an evening anchor.
