Lacey Swope is an Emmy award-winning American meteorologist who works at News 9/KWTV-DT, channel 9, as a morning and noon meteorologist. Prior to joining the station in 2011, she worked at KMEG in Sioux City, Iowa, as a meteorologist.

Swope joined the University of Oklahoma after finishing her high school education. In May 2010, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology with minors in Broadcast Journalism and Mathematics.
While attending OU, Swope seized every opportunity she could, where she tenured at OWL as a forecaster. Also, she worked part-time for CIMMS, where she researched an NSF grant focusing on solar panels in Oklahoma. She was a member of the OU chapter of AMS, worked part-time for IT, and worked shifts at OU Nightly. Additionally, she interned at NEWS9 and was accorded the president’s & dean’s honor roll.

Swope is a morning and noon meteorologist at News 9/KWTV-DT, channel 9. In this role, she forecasts on weekday mornings from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. In 2011, she joined the News 9 weather team, covering live the May 19th and 20th devastating tornado outbreak. The tornado came as shock to many since they never expected it to last for less than two weeks on May 31st. For the network’s extended coverage of the tornado, she and her teammates were accorded a regional Emmy Award.
Swope began her meteorology career at KMEG 14 in Sioux City, Iowa, where she became the weekday morning meteorologist. During her tenure at the station, she forecasted for the tri-state area of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa. Also, she covered several weather events, including the April 9, 2011, tornado that destroyed 60% of the town of Mapleton, blizzards, floods, droughts, and tornadoes.
Swope gained an interest in the weather when she was young and knew what she wanted to do when she grew up. She was always fascinated with hail, lightning, sky, and tornadoes. Moreover, she pursued a career in meteorology so she could study the atmosphere every day and share her passion for weather with others.
