Leigh Spann Biography

Leigh Spann is an American meteorologist working at WFLA in Tampa, FL. since joining the station in September 2007. You can catch her at 4:30 am Monday-Friday, and she will always show you how it’s going to feel when you step outside. You can also catch her weather forecasts on WTTA Great 38 at 7 am, and she also co-hosts the newscast from 8 am-9 am on Great 38.

Spann attended the University of Georgia where she graduated with a BS in Geography and a certificate in Atmospheric Science. She was one of the first people at UGA to graduate with the Atmospheric Science Certificate. She graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Spann wakes up at 1:30 am and goes to bed at 6:30 pm, so she is lucky that it’s always been easy for her to fall asleep. As a runner, the weather entices her to get out and explore the neighborhoods around her house during her afternoon runs.

Spann has even run two marathons. Tampa’s Gasparilla Distance Classic is one of her favorite weekends of the year, so if you’ve never taken part in the races that weekend, you should. She is a huge college football fan! Sorry, Florida Gators…she is a Georgia Bulldog!

Prior to moving to Tampa, Spann worked at their sister station, WCBD, in Charleston, SC where she was also the morning meteorologist. While working at WCBD, she received the Award of Merit for South Carolina Weathercaster of the Year. Additionally, she worked at WMAZ in Macon, GA. In 2008, she earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation and holds the National Weather Association Broadcast Seal of Approval.
