Liam Murphy Biography
Liam Murphy is an American meteorologist working for Western Mass News(WSHM-TV) as a meteorologist since June 2022. He joined the station as a news producer in September 2021.
Liam Murphy Education
Murphy joined Western Connecticut State University in Danbury in August 2016 after finishing his education at Sabis International Charter School. In May 2021, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, Broadcast Journalism, and Forecasting.
During his time in college, Murphy attended the American Meteorological Society’s annual conference. There, he learned about researching weather phenomena as a forecaster for the National Weather Service and TV broadcasting. He interned at the WCSU Weather Center.

Murphy works for Western Mass News(WSHM-TV) as a meteorologist. After graduating from college, he joined Western Mass News as a news producer. In June 2022, he debuted as a meteorologist on the networks of Western Mass News. Since then, he has transitioned into a hybrid role of producing and filling in on the weather desk on weekends.
His interest in the weather started with the June 1, 2011, tornado. The Springfield native’s love for science kick-started after he experienced the severe weather event firsthand. A couple of years following the tornado, he went to space camp in Huntsville, where he gained hands-on experience flying simulators and conducting experiments. He briefly wanted to become an astronaut or forecast weather for NASA, a love for space still exists to this day.
Murphy was part of the Boy Scouts of America, Western Mass Council, for nearly a decade. While there, he obtained the rank of Eagle and briefly worked as an Archery instructor at the Moses Scout Reservation in Russell. When he’s not studying the stars, he enjoys the great outdoors and all that Mother Nature has to offer.
