Mariam Mackar Biography
Mariam Mackar is an American journalist of Egyptian descent working for WTMJ as a multimedia journalist since joining the station in August 2022. Previously, she worked for WDIO/WIRT in Duluth, Minnesota as a multimedia journalist and reporter.
Mariam Mackar Education
Mackar joined DePaul University in Chicago in 2012 when she finished her high school education at Downers Grove South High School. In 2020, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science and a minor in Creative Writing.
While in college, she was chosen to be a part of DePaul’s Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence. In this role, she worked under the guidance of career professionals such as political editor Carol Marin and investigative producer Don Moseley to develop in-depth reports for WTTW’s Chicago Tonight. Also, she was a part of DePaul Women’s a Cappella.
