Mark Henderson is an American Meteorologist working with WIFR 23 News where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. He has been working with the station since July 5th, 2003.

Henderson works with WIFR 23 News where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. While growing up, the Schaumburg, Illinois native used to watch WGN-TV in Chicago. It is at that time that he developed a passion for the weather which has stuck with him for more than three decades. This passion is what led him to Valparaiso University and then to WIFR News following stints in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Mark states that he enjoys being able to help the viewers in any way he can and by helping a mother decide how to dress her child for school or providing potentially life-saving information during the most dangerous situations. Asides from WIFR, he also likes spending time with his family, visiting local restaurants, wineries, and craft breweries, and cooking.

He states that his parents were the biggest influence on his life, instilling in him a solid moral foundation, a strong work ethic, and an understanding that respect is earned and not given. Asides from this, he explains that it is important for people to embrace the community in as many ways as they can.

Henderson further explains that community involvement and the personal interactions that come out of it are among the easiest ways to set people apart. He explains that being a good steward in the community and a positive role model goes a long way.

For him, the most important person in his life is Jesus Christ who has blessed him with a wonderful family and great friends, and the talents to achieve professional success doing the job he loves as much today as he did the first day, and many other blessings. His favorite drink is Diet Mountain Dew.

On the other hand, his favorite entree is Orange chipotle chicken whereas his favorite dessert is Oreo cheesecake. His favorite holiday happens to be New Year’s Eve/Day. It has always been nice to be able to hit the reset button, celebrate the achievements and highlights of the year that is ending, and set new goals for the year ahead.

His favorite season is summer as it is the season of grilling out, festivals, flip-flops, picnics, and baseball. This goes to explain that his favorite sport is baseball although he loves all sports and is a proud fan of the Chicago Cubs. Henderson’s favorite movie happens to be “Back to the Future. He further explains that he will always have a soft spot in his heart for “Home Alone.” Asides from that, he is a huge fan of “Groundhog Day” and “What About Bob?”

For him, his most daring feat is participating in Rockford’s Polar Plunge more than a dozen times in March ad while that water is ridiculously cold, it is nowhere near as cold as the water he plunged into for a Polar Plunge in St. Germain, Wisconsin, and back in 2003 when the temperature at “plaunge” time was 10 degree with a wind chill at -5 degree. He states that he thanks God there was a hot tub to jump into right after leaving the frigid water.
