Mary Lee Biography
Mary Lee is an American meteorologist working for KPIX Channel 5 News in San Francisco, California. She joined KPIX5 in February 2018.
Mary Lee Career
Lee forecasts the station’s weekday meteorologist providing weather coverage on the KPIX 5 Morning News and KPIX 5 News at Noon. She finds a lot of pleasure in reporting and forecasting for her hometown and feels very lucky and blessed to be doing so. Her broadcasting career began when she landed a job at KOVR-TV, KPIX5 sister station in Sacramento where she served as a writer while at San Fransisco State University where she attained her degree in broadcast and electronic communication arts.
Lee then moved to KHSL-TV in Chico which was her first on-air reporting job. After a while of working for KHSL -TV, she moved to Austin, Texas to forecast severe weather. While in Chico, she managed to enclose the 2007 floods which were one of the most destructive weather events in the history of Central Texas. She went to Houston in 2010 to forecast the weather at KPRC-TV. In 2012, she flew with Hurricane Hunters into Hurricane Isaac and was in the storm when it made landfall along the Louisiana coast. She then joined forces with KING5in Seattle where she worked hand in hand with the Washington state hydrologist to give critical information just hours after the deadly Oso landslide.
Lee is nonetheless very much into inspiring young people most especially females and minorities to love and pursue engineering, math, STEM, tech, or science. She also interviews superwomen and men who are boldly pursuing their passion in a podcast called STEM Boldly. Additionally, she is very active with several organizations and foundations that are in her community including Special Olympics, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is also a huge foodie and is always out trying new food, restaurants, and eateries. Lastly, she is very active on her social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
