Ryan Yamamoto Biography
Ryan Yamamoto is an American Emmy Award-Winning journalist working for KPIX5 serving as an anchor. He joined the station in June 2016.
Ryan Yamamoto Career
Yamamoto has toured many states due to his work. He had also worked for other stations prior to joining KPIX5. For instance, he previously worked at KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri where he served as a reporter, a Weekend Anchor in Pocatello, ID at KPVI before landing in Sacramento at KCRA in 1998.
Yamamoto also enclosed stories that hit the headlines including the Ted Kaczynski “Unabomber” trial, and the recall and the election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yamamoto also enclosed California wildfires, the Yosemite killings as well as the arrest of Cary Stayner. He made a long ump into becoming a Sports Anchor in 2005 and started off at KSWB in San Diego. After a while in KSWB, he moved to Sacramento at KXTV where he had the chance to cover the Super Bowl. While still in KXTV, he managed to cover the Golden State Warriors NBA Championships and the Giant’s three World Series Titles
While at San Francisco State University where he attained his degree in Broadcasting, he was an actual employee of the Golden State Warriors (too short to play). During the RUN TMC days, I operated the music and animation board (we all remember Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”) on game days. His most recent career was at KOMO in Seattle where he served as a Morning Anchor in Seattle at KOMO. In 2016, Yamamoto and his wife completed a documentary on U.S. Olympic weightlifter Tommy Kono – who is not just the greatest American weightlifter of all time, but one of the greatest in the world. The film aired nationally on local PBS stations and was nominated for an Emmy.

He is also an active member of the NATAS and honored to be a 5-time Emmy winner and multiple nominees for both reporting and anchoring. I am also a long-time member of the Asian American Journalist Association.
