Michelle Griego is an American Anchor/Reporter working for CBS4 News in Denver, Colorado where she serves the station as a Morning and Noon Co-Anchor. There, she anchors the Weekday Morning News at 4:30 AM alongside Dominic Garcia. She has been working with CBS4 News/KCNC-TV since the year 2004.

She was previously a student at the Metropolitan State University of Denver where she was studying Speech Communication and broadcasting between 2004 and 2006. In her career, she has co-anchored “Two Bits,” a KWGN-TV kid’s news show for nearly three years. This program was seen in Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, and Colorado.
During that time, there weren’t a lot of Latinas on TV. She states that it felt like providing a service because kids would come up to her and start talking about current events. Michelle states that she knew instantly that journalism was her calling. In her career, she has served as a reporter, online editor, and anchor. Among her favorite live shots include breaking news or “being knee-high in snow.
The year 2012 saw her move to the Bay Area working as a Morning Anchor for KPIX 5 in San Francisco. There, she covered mass shootings, parades, Super Bowls, and everything in between. Asides from this, she also hosted Bay Area Focus, a locally produced talk show. Asides from this, she was honored with an Emmy in the years 2014, 2016, and 2021.
She states that it wasn’t easy to be a die-hard fan in Raiders Country but Michelle and her family enjoyed their time in California. The year 2021 saw her being re-hired at CBS News Colorado where she was hired as a morning anchor after spending nearly a decade away. She is very active in the community and her volunteer work includes sitting on the boards for the Latin American Educational Foundation and Adelante Mujer. This is an organization that helps Latina High School students pursue higher education and professional career.
She states that the reason she is a journalist is that she loves learning about others and telling their stories. Her dream interview has always been interviewing Oprah Winfrey. She states that her role models are her parents and her dream job has always been to be a journalist. On the other hand, she states that the job she would never attempt is anything on a submarine since she gets claustrophobic in tight spaces
Her first breaking news story was while in college when she covered an 8-year-old girl who was trying to beat a record by flying across the U.S. She states that unfortunately, her plane crashed in Wyoming killing everybody on board. Her favorite story on the other hand has always been reporting in the snow. She states that her hidden talent is playing the flute as she has played it since she was in the 4th grade.
Away from work, she enjoys cumbia, salsa, tough mudder dancing, solving crossword puzzles, and cross-stitching. Her favorite food has always been Mexican food, especially Hatch and Pueblo chiles. On the other hand, her favorite musician is Prince and Whitney Houston.
Her favorite sports team happens to be Broncos baby and her favorite author is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. On the other hand, her favorite vacation spot is Hawaii or Italy. She states that her least favorite household chore is taking out the trash and mostly her husband gets that shore.
Her favorite noise is her family’s loud talking during dinner and her least favorite noise is Knuckle cracking. She states that the music she finds herself listening to lately is salsa which wakes her up and puts her in a good mood. On the other hand, she states that what keeps her in Colorado is the Denver Broncos, the beauty of her home state, her family, and the mountains.
Griego states that the biggest risk she has ever taken is moving away from family and friends to live in California for almost a decade. She states that if she was to play a role in a movie, she would wish for Salma Hayek and would probably end up being Margaret Hamilton(Wizard of Oz).
