Garrigan works with WIFR 23 News where she serves the station as a News Anchor. The San Gabriel, California native is a former priest and lived in Park Ridge, Illinois, and Waukesha, Wisconsin where he was raised. While at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, he found his passion for broadcasting as a way to use his love for sports. He joined the 23 News team working as a Sports Director before later transitioning into the news a few years later.
Mike states that he has always been a person who enjoys sharing stories with those that he cares about. He goes ahead to state that he cares about the Rockford community and loves the ability to share information and insight on what’s important to the Stateline. He calls his family the most important people in his life. Garrigan further explains that his family is the first consideration in every decision he makes. He further explains that they are simply what matters most.
Garrigan takes his role as a journalist seriously and states that it is an important job in the community. He explains that it is the journalist’s role to be the presenter of information not the sharper of viewpoints. Asides from this, he states that they have the ability to ask important questions of decision-makers and don’t take that opportunity lightly.
Additionally, he states that journalists are obliged to show how a story, press release, or other sourced information impacts the community. He also explains that it is their job to humanize issues and news of the day to make the community understand why it would be important and impactful on them.
Away from work, he enjoys watching and playing sports, traveling, spending time with his family, playing games, and playing trivia which is in addition to following his four kids around the Midwest doing whatever they are passionate about.
He states that his biggest influence is his mom who taught him so many of the best virtues. Garrigan further explains that the biggest is to enjoy every moment to the fullest and take the responsibility seriously and has never taken himself too seriously.

This is because of the great food and since he gets to spend time with family and it just starts the Christmas season. Asides from this, the build-up to Christmas is even better than the day itself.
Garrigan’s favorite season happens to be the fall and explains that the smells of the leaves and cookouts attract him. He also loves the sweatshirt weather, the anniversary(Sept. 18), and the football, and is a huge fan of fall foliage. Mike explains that he just likes the overall mood when it is fall. His favorite sport on the other hand happens to be football and college basketball although he loves all sports. He loves playing tennis and basketball and enjoys studying baseball and football.
His favorite movies happen to be “Goodwill Hunting,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Fletch,” respectively. On the other hand, his favorite book happens to be “Hammer of the Gods: The Led Zeppelin Saga” although he states that he is more into fiction. His most dangerous feat is singing “O, Canada” with Mark Henderson at a Rockford Ice Hog game. This is because he is not a strong singer and states that it is the first time he has sung in front of a large group since the 8th grade choir more than 35 years ago.
