He served as a freelance production assistant for ESPN from December 2012 to May 2014. There, he assisted in the coordination of ESPN’s college football and college basketball events in Florida.
From June 2014 to September 2014, he served as a sports director and anchor for the Independent News Network in Davenport, Iowa Area. He also oversaw sports production and operations for (CBS/NBC) in Gainesville, Fla; WRDE (NBC) in Salisbury, Md.; and KLAX (ABC) in Alexandria, La, while anchoring, producing, and editing five nightly sportscasts.

Gillespie started at ABC Columbia as the weekend sports anchor and reporter. In June 2016, he was promoted to sports director. He handles the day-to-day operations and production of ABC Columbia’s multimedia sports platforms. He also holds WOLO-TV’s position of main sports anchor. Mike is also the host of Gamecock Saturday Night.
