Mike Holfed is a well-reputed Emmy Award-winning Investigative Reporter working for WKMG-TV. He joined the station in April 1999. His work has earned him a long list of honors. He has thus earned eight Emmy nominations winning two along with the 2008 Murrow Award. He has been recognized for excellence in journalism by the Associated Press, The Society of Professional Journalism. Also, he has earned The Sunshine State Award for Journalism excellence.

He received his education at The University of Delaware where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies with a Grade of A. During his stint there, he was on the campus radio station, and TV station, worked at radio stations in Wilmington and Philadelphia, and handled play-by-play football for the University of Delaware’s Blue Hens including the Boardwalk Bowl.

Mike has teamed up with Congressman John Mica, former Congressman Ric Keller, former state representative Randy Johnson, state Representative Sandy Adams, and Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart to examine issues and develop laws that help families in Florida and across the country. His investigations have led to new proposals in the auto insurance industry and video retail sales industry as well. During the economic downturn post9-11, his stories convinced then-Governor Jeb Bush to allow tax extensions for hotel-motel owners.
Mike’s report on parents losing a pregnancy to miscarriage led to the passage of the Grieving Parents Law. Now, Florida parents have the right to hold a memorial service no matter when the miscarriage occurs. Prior to working at WKMG, he worked at WXYV-TV as an anchor/reporter from October 1983 to April 1999. There, he was one of the finest news organizations of the day and worked as a weekend and weekday anchor as well as special reports breaking news and politics. He also covered President G.H. Bush’s final campaign and had an exclusive interview with Michael Jackson as he launched a push for a black-owned casino in Detroit. Also, he covered Pope John Paul’s visit to Detroit.
