Mike Ruzzi is an American journalist working for WICU as an anchor for Erie News Now at 5, 6, 7, and 11 p.m. He joined the station in March 1984 as a sports director and has served the station for more than 3 decades.

Ruzzi works for WICU as an anchor for Erie News Now at 5, 6, 7, and 11 p.m. Upon joining the station, he served the station as the sports director until 2013 when he transitioned to the news. During his time at the station, he has worked with Bill Knupp, Frank Rizzone, and Hyle Richmond.

Ruzzi has been involved with sports ever since he was younger. While growing up, he followed the Pens, Pirates, Steelers, and Pitt. In 1971, he went to the 1971 World Series (Orioles vs Pirates) with his dad which he still ranks as the greatest sports day he ever experienced. He calls that day the perfect sports day.

During his career, he has won awards for his work including awards from the Associated Press and the PA Association of Broadcasters for Best Sports Show, Sports Feature, and Play-By-Play. Further, he has broadcasted two World Series, the Stanley Cup Finals, six Super Bowls, over 300 regular-season NFL games, the Kentucky Derby, the Indianapolis 500, and the Belmont Stakes. He delivered play-by-play for the Strong Vincent PIAA football championship in 1991 and the PIAA basketball championships.

Through his work on TV, he has had the chance to give back to the community. He thinks serving the Erie City Special Olympics, CMN Telethon, and the Barber National Institute’s annual All-Star baseball game is very rewarding.

Ruzzi also works with the Children’s Miracle Network and the Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins sled team. Ruzzi serves the Erie Metro Hall of Fame dinner, the City-County All-Star Baseball Game dinner, and the Save-An-Eye football game dinner as an emcee. Last but not least, he came up with the idea for the 75th Anniversary Save-An-Eye book. He actively participates in events and alumni work at Edinboro University.
