KTVF is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Fairbanks, Alaska, in the United States. Gray Television owns it and it is a sister station to two low-power stations: primary MeTV and secondary MyNetworkTV affiliate KFXF-LD (channel 22) and Class A CBS affiliate KXDF-CD. The three stations share studio space on Braddock Street in downtown Fairbanks, with KTVF’s transmitter housed on the Ester Dome.
KTVF is used to provide KFXF-LD and KXDF-CD with full-market over-the-air high definition coverage. The station also broadcasts a digital fill-in translator on VHF channel 11 from a transmitter in its studios. KTVF was the first television station in the United States to serve what was then the smallest television market in the country. The station was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network in the late 1950s. KTVF changed its affiliation from CBS to NBC in 1996. In 2010, the FCC granted KTVF a building permit for a fill-in translator on their former analog allotment channel 11. The station began broadcasting in high definition at the start of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, with full HD service set to begin on May 31, 2012. Northern Lights Media announced on November 8, 2016, that it would purchase Fairbanks’ three remaining commercial television stations.
