There she was accorded an Emmy nomination for serving both as a fill-in traffic anchor, weekend morning anchor, and morning live reporter. She wore many hats as a multimedia journalist which she finds as an interesting challenge.
Her most memorable stories include coverage of the 2017 Presidential Inauguration, the historic opening of the National Museum of African American Culture and History, COVID-19’s widespread impact, and more. Her most prominent interviews were one-on-one with Martin Luther King III, ahead of the 2020 March on Washington. Previously, Turner tenured as the fill-in news anchor and a morning live reporter at WUSA9.
She also served at WBOC-TV16/ FOX21 in Salisbury, MD as a weather forecaster and producer. Prior to joining the network, she served at a hyperlocal cable news station, Prince George’s Community Television (CTV) as a co-anchor and a general assignment reporter. There she launched “ Inspirational Moments with Mikea,” which highlighted Prince George’s County residents making a difference in the community.
Turner attended and graduated from Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey New Brunswick/ Piscataway, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/ Media Studies and minored in Japanese. She is an advocate for the ALS Association and hopes to raise more awareness about the early detection of breast cancer.
Turner is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists(NABJ) and the Rutgers Alumni Mentoring Program. During her free time, she loves socializing with new people, mentoring youth, traveling to new places, embarking on new adventures, trying new foods, and telling stories that matter most to people in the community.
