Monique Ming Laven is an American Emmy-Award-Winning Reporter/Anchor working for KIRO 7 News where she serves the station as a Weekday Evening Co-anchor for the 4, 5, 6, and 7 PM Newscasts. She has been working with the station since June 2006.
Monique Ming Laven Career
Laven works with KIRO 7 News where she serves the station as an Evening Co-anchor. Since joining the station she has covered a wide range of stories. These include the Oslo landslide, the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl celebrations, and the 2009 and 2011 trials of Amanda Knox in Italy.
She has earned a number of Awards which include Emmy Awards. Edward R. Murrow Awards. National Headliner Awards, and the Associated Press Award working as an anchor and as a reporter. Prior to joining the KIRO 7 News team, she was working with WCMH in Columbus, Ohio, WKOW in Madison, Wisconsin, and the 6News team in Lawrence, Kansas.
In her time working in the Midwest, she was a key swing state for the presidential elections in the years 2004 and 2008. Asides from this, she has traveled to New York City in order to cover the September 11th attacks. This is in addition to biking 560 miles in six days from Minneapolis to Chicago reporting on the Heartland AIDS Ride.
She has also made a practice of living in cities with universities(Wisconsin Badgers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Kansas Jayhawks). Asides from this, she has made her home in Seattle, the turf of a Pac-12 rival, and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She often makes her weekly highlights in the car. Ming is a volunteer driver for Sound Generations(formerly King County Senior Services).
