He has been in broadcasting since 1992. He is known as NewDawg. The gloss of the name came from his Omega Psi Phi Fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Then he was named the 1992 National Leadership Award winner Omega. In 2007, he created the Dr. Sylvester Wooten Scholarship for fellow Chi Mu chapter members.
