Paul Heggen Biography
Paul Heggen is an American Emmy Award-Winning meteorologist working for KPIX5 serving as a Chief meteorologist. He joined the station in March 2020.
Paul Heggen Education
Heggen attended the University of Denver where he attained his bachelor’s degree in geography. After his time at the University of Denver, he attained his master’s degree in meteorology from Texas A&M University. A&M focused on lightning patterns within severe and tornadic thunderstorms, a course of study that helped prepare him for forecasting the weather in some of the most challenging markets in the country.
Paul Heggen Career
Heggen is a meteorologist who has moved all over different states in America performing research into the effects of El Nino on weather patterns in the Rocky Mountains. He had also worked for other stations prior to joining KPIX5. For instance, he previously worked for stations in Duluth, OK, TN, Beaumont, TX, WV, Tulsa, Huntington, NC, MN, and Raleigh. He was also awarded the American Meteorological Society’s seal of approval in 2002 and was upgraded in 2016 to the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal.
Heggen has managed to enclose everything that has to do with the weather from tornado outbreaks in the Southern Plains to hurricanes along the Carolina coast to blizzards in the Upper Midwest. He is also very much glad to be enclosing the forecast weather right on the front lines of climate change and the micro-climates of the Bay Area.
Heggen has nonetheless managed to win several awards ever since he started his career. For instance, he won six Emmy Awards and quite a number of “Best Weathercast” and “Best Weather Anchor” awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press Awards. He was named “Weathercaster of the Year” by the Radio, Television, and Digital News Association of the Carolinas in 2019.
Heggen has loved the weather ever since he was a young boy at the age of 4. He used to look out through the kitchen window whenever there was lightning and saw how the lightning struck his neighbor’s house. While in kindergarten, he experienced a tornado circumventing the whole town where his family used to live. He also grew up seeing how kids were afraid of thunderstorms and due to that, he chose to be a meteorologist and he has studied it ever since. Heggen is not only active when it comes to his career but also in his hobbies. He is also very active on his social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
