Peter Alexander is an American correspondent, host, and anchor working for NBC News. He joined the station in 2004 and anchors NBC Nightly News, Today, Meet the Press, Dateline NBC, MSNBC, and NBCNews.com.

He joined Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism to pursue his career course. After finishing his studies there, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Alexander is a correspondent, host, and anchor at NBC News. In December 2012, he covered the White House and the President of the United States, and from there he obtained the title of NBC News White House correspondent. He was named co-anchor of Today for Saturday episodes in October 2018. Alexander shares duties alongside Kristen Welker as co-anchor of Weekend Today, the Saturday edition of Today, and as the network’s co-chief White House correspondent.

Prior to joining the NBC News team, he worked for KCPQ-TV in Tacoma, Washington. While there, he served as an anchor and reporter for three years three months. He also worked at KHQ-TV NBC affiliate in  Spokane, Washington, United States. During his working time there, he served as a anchor and reporter for two years six months from October 1998 to March 2001. Before working there, he served at WKYT-TV CBS affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky as a reporter. 

During his tenure at NBC News, he has covered many international stories including the tsunami in Indonesia and Iraq’s historic election in 2005 to the death of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. He has also done environmental reporting such as the Northwest Passage in the Arctic. In addition to that, he filed reports from Mexico, Lagos, Israel, Gaza Strip, the Galápagos Islands, and Afghanistan.

Throughout his career, he has covered numerous breaking news events including anchoring live coverage of the Virginia Tech shooting  and “Miracle on the Hudson.” In addition to that, he reported on the international controversy surrounding WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange in 2010. Furthermore, he worked as a host of NBC Sports and covered both the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
