Elmhorst serves as the Midday News Anchor, weekdays beginning at Noon. He attended high school, and college, and even raised his family in this town. So it’s no surprise that he began his career as a journalist in the Polk County newsroom of Bay News 9. Rick began his career on the 24-hour news team as a local reporter covering his home county, eventually expanding his role and responsibilities to include Weekend Evening News Anchor.
Elmhorst interest in broadcasting began in high school when he took a radio course during his junior year. Rick started working at Bay Area Christian radio station WCIE in 1980, and he continued working there while attending Florida Southern College in Lakeland. He received a distinguished graduate award in 2005 after graduating in 1984. Rick found time to work part-time in television during his 16-year radio career. Rick began working in television full-time in 1998, producing a weekly news magazine for the Orlando-based “Charisma Magazine” before joining Bay News 9 the following year.
