Rod Carter Biography
Rod Carter is an American award-winning journalist who anchors News Channel 8’s weekend evening newscasts at 6 pm, 8 pm, and 11 pm. Carter is as well a general assignment reporter three days a week.
He attended and graduated from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee and is a Life Member of the FAMU National Alumni Association. He is also a host, moderator, or speaker of hundreds of community events throughout Tampa Bay and the state of Florida.

Apart from working as a journalist, Carter also coaches and guides other upcoming journalists as a mentor. He has been the lead teacher for the NABJ-FAMU Journalism Short Course for years, instructing students in broadcast during an intensive weekend course.
He is on the board of the National Association of Black Journalists, as Region III Director. Carter supervises dozens of professional and student chapters across several states. He is also an Immediate Past President of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists.
Outside journalism, Carter is the 2nd Vice President and a charter member of the Sigma Xi Sigma chapter in Tampa and is a life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Additionally, he is a member of the NAACP and regularly speaks to students in Bay Area schools, and mentors journalists across the country.
