Rusty Garrett Biography

Rusty Garrett is an American meteorologist working for KWTX-TV as the Chief Weather Anchor. He joined the station in 1989.

Rusty Garrett Career

Garrett is the Chief Weather Anchor for KWTX-TV. He has been studying weather science for longer than any other broadcaster in our area. His broadcasting career began as a radio announcer in high school in his hometown of Victoria, Texas. Rusty began his television career after a decade of working at radio stations from Victoria to Corpus Christi.

He has since been the head of weather departments in Longview/Tyler, Lufkin/Nacogdoches, and now, for nearly 30 years, Central Texas. Rusty’s involvement in the community has made him one of the most well-known and well-liked people in the area. He has served on the boards of directors of both the United Way and the American Red Cross.

Garrett has tirelessly spearheaded Project Tornado, a 16-county school weather safety program, for more than a quarter-century and is in constant demand speaking to tens of thousands of children in school districts throughout the area. He is the local Chairman for the United States Marine Corps “Toys For Tots” Christmas campaign each year.

Rusty is an active member of the Masonic fraternity. The Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite conferred the 33rd degree on him in September 2017. Rusty was installed as The Grand Lodge of Texas’s District Deputy Grand Master in 2007. He is a Past Master of the Fidelis Masonic Lodge #1127 in Waco, Texas. Anyone who has seen him on News 10 can see his love and commitment to the community, particularly its children.
